Reasons to Love Silkie Chickens
Silkie chickens. Personally, not my favorite breed of chickens but they are so darn cute and fluffy. A lot of people love silkies, my eldest daughter being one of those people. She got her first flock of silkie chickens for her 12th birthday and continues to care for and breed them.

Reasons to Love Silkie Chickens
Calm and Friendly Nature
Silkie chickens are renowned for their docile and friendly nature.
They are known for being calm, gentle, and easily handled, making them an ideal breed for families with children. Silkies often enjoy human interaction and are known to be sociable, which can make your chicken-raising experience all the more enjoyable.
You are of course going to have exceptions to every rule, our silkie rooster is not nice, but he makes pretty babies.
Excellent Brooders
If you're interested in hatching your own chicks, Silkies are great brooders.
They are dedicated and attentive mothers, carefully tending to their eggs and protecting their chicks. Their brooding instincts are so strong that they are often sought after to hatch and raise eggs from other chicken breeds or even other bird species.
Suitable for Small Spaces
Silkies are considered a bantam breed, meaning they are smaller in size compared to standard chickens.
This makes them perfect for those with limited space. Whether you have a small backyard or an urban homestead, Silkies can comfortably thrive in a smaller coop or run. Their compact size also means they require less feed and generally have a lower impact on the environment.
And they often don't roost meaning you can keep to a simple coop format.
Eggcellent Pets
While Silkies are not known for their egg-laying abilities, they make up for it in other ways.
Their eggs are smaller in size, and they only lay about 120 a year. And that is if they don't go broody. A broody hen doesn't lay eggs.
