This recipe is a little different than some of those you'll find here. I didn't make it in my bread machine, it also has a vegetable in it, this something new for me. We now enjoy potato buns whenever we have burgers, apparently we love potato bread!

Potato in bread leads to light, airy bread. Potato starches attract and hold more water than wheat starches and help to increase the moisture content in baked goods.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium potato
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 tsp yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp parsley (more or less to taste) – optional
  • 2 cups flour
  • mozzarella cheese

How to Make Cheese Potato Bread

The very start of this recipe is to boil, or steam, a medium-sized potato.

Once you have cooked your potato add it to a mixing bowl. Add in warm milk and mash away!

Add in your yeast, sugar, parsley if you so choose to add it, an egg, and salt. Mix everything together. It's going to look like very wet, gooey mashed potatoes. Nothing that you want to eat.

Mix in flour.

Set aside your bowl covered, in a warm place for two hours, or until the dough has doubled in size. Potato in the dough helps to activate the yeast, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Spread in a greased 9×9 pan. Or in a bread pan.

Bake in the oven preheated to 350 for 30 minutes.

Something we have also tried is adding garlic powder into our dough. Because we love garlic. It's amazing.

This bread is delicious as it is. It is amazing with some garlic butter spread on it, which is what led me to put garlic in it.
