I buy ripe bananas that have reduced in-store for making my banana bread because bananas never ripen enough for bread around here. We love fresh bananas too much for that.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter – softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 bananas, mashed
  • 2 cups all-purpose white flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
ingredients in bread machine

Start by adding the wet ingredients to your bread machine pan, including the mashed bananas.

Add dry ingredients to the bread machine pan, minus the chocolate chips. You will add these later.

My bread machine has a nut dispenser so I can add my chocolate chips to this dispenser right away and they will be added at the appropriate time. I highly recommend this machine, we have been loving it and all its features!

If you do not have a nut dispenser you will want to add the chocolate chips between the first and second mixing.

You might want to give the batter/dough a quick mixing here too. My machine seems to leave a little flour along the sides no matter what setting I use. Scraping down the sides quickly seems to take care of this problem.

Use the sweet bread setting to mix and cook your chocolate chip banana bread.

Once it has finished, remove the pan from the bread machine, but allow the bread to sit in the pan for 5-10 minutes before removing it from the pan.

Does banana bread need to be refrigerated? If you are going to eat it within a few days, I recommend leaving your banana bread at room temperature. But if it is going to take longer I would put it in an air-tight container and put it in the fridge.

Why does banana bread taste better the next day? This is because the natural sweetness from the bananas settles into the bread even more.
