How to Make Bread Machine Pizza Dough

The most important step in making sure this dough works out is making sure that you give your yeast enough time to activate. Otherwise, you are going to have a heavy lump of dough and not easily rolled out.

We start with the sugar, yeast, and warm water in the pot of my bread machine and let it sit for about 5 minutes. You want the yeast to be quite foamy.

Then you can add in the rest of your ingredients. This recipe is going to give your dough that extra bunch with the onion powder, garlic powder, and thyme.

Make sure you save the salt for last as it can still kill your yeast.

There are a number of cycles on my bread machine for dough. We use a 23-minute one. Which there is also a button on it which is for kneading, this cycle is 23 minutes as well, and I have started using it.

Let it rise in a warm space, such as your bread machine turned off, for 25 minutes.

Blake bakes pizza at the highest temperature our oven goes, which is 550°F. You are going to want to watch your pizza very carefully at this temperature, and not walk away as I do. A lot.

Some of our favorite types of pizza to make have been:

  • donair pizza
  • traditional pepperoni
  • cheeseburger pizza
  • pulled pork pizza – OMG this was delicious! (No recipe sorry!)

Why Use a Bread Machine for Pizza Dough?

Making pizza dough from scratch can be time-consuming, but a bread machine streamlines the entire process. With a bread machine, all you need to do is add the ingredients, set it to the dough cycle, and let it work its magic.

This time-saving approach allows you to focus on preparing toppings or other meal prep while the machine kneads and rests the dough perfectly.

The bread machines offer consistent results every time, ensuring the dough has the right texture and elasticity. No more guesswork—just reliable, fluffy pizza dough ready to be baked!

Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

While using a bread machine makes dough prep easier, there are still some common pitfalls to watch out for:

  • Adding Too Much Flour: It can be tempting to add more flour if the dough looks sticky, but resist the urge! Pizza dough should be slightly tacky to achieve that perfect chewy crust. Use a little flour for handling, but avoid overloading the machine.
  • Under-Kneading the Dough: The bread machine takes care of kneading, but ensure it's set to the correct cycle. If the machine doesn’t knead the dough enough, it can result in a dense crust. Make sure to use the full dough cycle for thorough kneading.
  • Skipping Rest Time: After the dough cycle ends, allow the dough to rest and rise further before shaping. Skipping this step can lead to a tough or flat crust. Give the dough time to develop gluten, which will make it easier to work with and produce a lighter texture when baked.

Avoiding these mistakes will help ensure your pizza dough turns out light, airy, and delicious every time.
